Timestamp

Simply, a “timestamp” is a type of identification for a specific transaction. The timestamp is a sequence of characters or information that has been encoded that serves the purpose of identifying the when a certain event had taken place.

Timestamps usually detail the date and the exact time of the day. At times, a timestamp may even contain the precise fraction whence the event occurred.

The term had been taken from rubber stamps that are usually used in offices to record the exact time of receipt of specific documents that have been delivered.
