Open Source

The term “Open Source” technically pertains to software or application that people can easily make alterations to and share with others in light of its accessibility. Effectively, the one holding the software’s copyright has the ability to grant access to users. 

The term was birthed by software development in the aim of designating a specific approach to create computer programs. These days, when “Open Source” is mentioned, it would refer to a wider set of values, called “the open source way”. 

Given these definitions, Open Source software is one that has a source code that anyone has the ability of inspecting, changing, and enhancing to serve a purpose. The authors of Open Source software   ascertain that the source code is available to others who may want to copy it, modify it, share it across venues, and learn from it. Software such as LibreOffice and the GNU Image Manipulation Program are categorized under Open Source software.
