Mainnet Swap

A Mainnet Swap refers to the switching of one blockchain to another. It is commonplace for Mainnet Swaps to occur when a cryptocurrency project migrates from a third party platform, for instance, Ethereum to its own blockchain. Upon switching the cryptos are slowly replaced by cons that are newly-issued, with the entire blockchain activity being moved to the new chain.

Mainnet Swap is also called, “Token Migration” and begins immediately after the Mainnet Launch. The move is not associated constantly with the launch of a new blockchain. At times, it may also coincide with situations wherein the projects move from protocol to protocol. Let’s take for example, Storj administering a Mainnet Swap. To avoid scalability issues, it will opt to migrate tokens from a Bitcoin based protocol to an Ethereum network.
