Bitcoin Pizza

The name “Bitcoin Pizza” was given to the first known purchase of physical goods through the Bitcoin token.

Back on the 22nd of May 2010, a programmer by the name of Lazlo Hanyecz posted through Bitcointalk, the sole Bitcoin forum at that time, he wrote,

“I’ll pay 10,000 bitcoins for a couple of pizzas.. Like maybe 2 large ones so i have some left over for the next day”

At that point in time, 10,000 BTC corresponds to an approximate amount of $41.00. This is equivalent to a Bitcoin price of about $0.0041. Hanyecz’s offer had been taken up by another Bitcointalk user who had paid $25 for the pizzas, reaching a total of $16 worth of profit.

Back in 2017, Bitcoin had met an equivalent of $20,000. This brought the total of the Bitcoin Pizza Transaction at $200,000,000. May 22nd had since been recognized as the Bitcoin Pizza Day.
